Gippsland and East Gippsland Aboriginal Co-operative

GEGAC was originally established in 1975 to support and develop the Aboriginal Medical Service and also as an Aboriginal culture centre.

GEGAC was established when the local Aboriginal men and women decided that the East Gippsland region needed services specific to the Aboriginal people to fill the void and address the lack of understanding about Aboriginal issues.

The first service to be provided was an Aboriginal Health Service, which was established in 1972 and not long after was given its current name: Gippsland & East Gippsland Aboriginal Co-Operative.

GEGAC provides services under the following divisions.

  • Business and Administration
  • Cultural Business
  • Community Services
  • Children, Youth & Family Services
  • Primary Health & Dental
