Research Accord Project Coordinator

The role will coordinate the project to progress towards the development of a Victorian Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Accord. The 'Accord' may include research principles, priorities and components to guide interactions between the Aboriginal community, researchers and other stakeholders when conducting research related to the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people and communities in Victoria. The role will also develop and implement systems to help VACCHO manage its ongoing engagement with research stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Work collaboratively with other staff in the Policy & Research unit including the Research Accord Project Officer to undertake a project to progress towards the development of a Victorian Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Accord.
  • Coordinate and lead the engagement with the Aboriginal community and with research stakeholders including universities, research institutes, Human Research Ethics Committees and government to inform the development of a Victorian Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Accord.
  • Produce a report on engagement outcomes.
  • Develop a process evaluation plan for the project and provide an evaluation report considering project deliverables.

About you
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant experience or qualifications related to health, public health, research, community engagement, and/or community development.

 Aboriginal Research Assistants

VACCHO is seeking Aboriginal people who may be studying research, nursing, social sciences or the equivalent and the Aboriginal health workforce looking for some additional work with experience talking with community about sensitive health issues who also have some project/interviewing experience. We are looking for an inclusive pool of people so for example, if men want to talk to men we can provide this option. It is anticipated a VACCHO staff member will also attend these yarns to take notes and write up the discussion.

However, there could be opportunities for this role to also write up the yarns they have with community, pending experience. These yarns will likely be face to face however online or via phone is also an option for community members who would prefer. It is expected that travel will be required to go to where the community members live in Victoria.

The casual roles will be paid on an hourly basis allowing time for travel and to conduct yarns and interviews with community and key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening.
  • Skills in interviewing, asking questions on sensitive health matters, including with people whose family members have passed.
  • Experience asking qualitative/open-ended interview questions and/or yarns.

Senior Project Officer (Identified)

This position will be responsible for supporting the Executive Manager, Chronic disease and other Managers in the Unit in driving high impact, project delivery with a particular focus on managing projects that support the implementation of VACCHO’s new strategic plan: On Solid Ground. There will be a particular focus on developing and delivering on projects across the cancer journey, including cancer screening initiatives for bowel, breast and cervical cancer with community in partnership with screening partners.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Coordinate the delivery of project activities including project workshops, meetings with external partners, and other project related activities
  • Develop and maintain internal project documentation including project briefs, progress reports, communications plans, risk registers, and other project related documents
  • Monitor and proactively follow up on outstanding project actions and assist in maintaining project timelines and scope
  • Undertake other duties, which are appropriate to the level of the position, as directed by the reporting Manager

Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Support project teams with the design and implementation of monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks.

NDIS Project Officer

The position will sit within the Quality of Life team in the larger Population Health and Sector Development unit. The position will work with the Senior NDIS Project Officer and the Unit Manager to support the implementation of the NDIS Aboriginal Access, NDIS Business Ready, and Yana Djerring Projects. 

The NDIS Aboriginal Access Project facilitates direct support to community members with disability and chronic mental health condition to link into their communities while being assisted to access the NDIS. The aim of the NDIS Ready program is to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled health organisations become viable service providers of the NDIS. The NDIS Ready project is funded under the Jobs and Market Fund (JMF). Yana Djerring is a best practice model for Aboriginal Support Coordination that has been developed through a co-design project involving Aboriginal support coordinators in the North Metropolitan Area of Melbourne. It is an outcome of a project funded by the NDIA (Information, Linkages and Capacity-building) (ILC) and the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services, and auspiced by Balit Narrum.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • build their understanding of community needs and gaps in disability services 
  • Support in the implementation of the Yana Djerring Project
  • Supporting the Senior Project Officer to organise three Yarning circles for NDIS participants. 
  • Acting in a Secretariat role for the Yana Djerring Peer Support Network.
  • determine and prepare for their role in relation to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) transition to the NDIS, where appropriate.

Koori Maternity Strategy Senior Project Officer

Manager, Research

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and lead the implementation of the VACCHO Strategic Plan, which entails delivering upon the Victorian Aboriginal Research

AOD & Mental Health Trainer

The position is responsible for coordinating, delivering, for AQF level Ill to Diploma Community Services qualifications to aspiring Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

The position is responsible for designing, delivering, assessing and developing training materials and resources for AOD and mental health related accredited and non-accredited training, to aspiring Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, as well as people who work in roles supporting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Facilitating and contributing to the development, delivery, assessment, validation, and moderations of accredited training programs from the Community Services and related training packages, as well as non-accredited training courses.
  • Meeting requirements for student and general administration tasks including record keeping associated with the delivery of training programs and assessment for students, including posting results and conducting other student administration in line with organisation, funding and registration body requirements, including the Student and Learning Management Systems.

About you

  • A qualification in alcohol and other drugs, social work, community services, psychology, or a related field (at a minimum of Diploma-level).
  • A minimum TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.
  • Completion of CHCSS00093 Alcohol and Other Drugs Skills Set.
  • Recent and relevant industry experience, and willingness to share your experience with our students.

About the opportunity
The position is responsible for coordinating, delivering, assessing and developing training materials and resources for AQF level Ill to Diploma Community Services qualifications to aspiring Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Delivery of accredited training in counselling, family services, AOD and other community services programs, with tasks such as:
    • Delivering training workshops, incorporating simulated learning, on and off- the-job assessments and appropriate on-the-job activities.
    • Conducting assessments using a variety of methods including paper based, RPL, and workplace interviews.
    • Developing and modifying resources to suit the needs of students and employers ensuring currency and version control of all learning and assessment resources and texts.
    • Ensuring compliance with AQTF and funding body requirements.
  • Meeting student and general administration requirements associated with the delivery of training programs and assessment finalisation for students:
    • Posting results and conducting other student administration in line with organisation, funding and registration body requirements.

About you
The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent.
  • A qualification in community services, behavioural sciences, social work or psychology (minimum of Diploma level) and/or extensive experience and demonstrated ability in a community services role.
  • Experience working in Aboriginal Healthcare focusing on case management and community support programs.
  • Experience working in a vocational training role delivering accredited qualifications and/or units of competency.
  • High level written communication skills including an ability to develop high quality learning resources (paper-based, online)
