Victorian Aboriginal Cervical Screening Self-Collection Kits
Aboriginal self-collection kits for cervical screening will be distributed very soon to all Victorian ACCOs that provide cervical screening. We’ll be in touch with ACCOs and other organisations receiving the kits with an ETA on their arrival.
The kits, featuring artwork by Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung and Gamilaroi artist Madison Connors, include:
• The non-transparent Aboriginal designed pouch
• A self-collection patient instruction card (how to collect the sample)
• A non-transparent specimen bag with the swab.
For women who choose a clinician provided cervical screening test, and/or whose screening result requires them to take further follow up tests, they will be provided a towel featuring Madison’s artwork for use during these consultations and can keep. VACCHO is also working with cancer screening partners on an awareness raising strategy for Aboriginal Health Workers and Community.
If you have any clinical or education questions, please email the VCS Pathology Liaison Physician Team or call 03 9250 0300. If you have any questions or would like further information about the self-collection kits, please email the VACCHO Cancer Journey Team or call 03 9411 9411.
