Early Parenting Centres Consultation
September 12 - September 23
VACCHO invites Koori Maternity Services, Early Years and Family services to participate in consultations that will inform and guide the strategic and operational direction of the Early Parenting Centres expansion project, to be more culturally safe and responsive for Aboriginal children and their families.
ABSTARR Consulting will hold consultations between 12 – 23rd September 2022.
The 2019-20 Victorian State Budget committed $135.1 million over four years for the expansion of the Early Parenting Centres (EPC) network. Currently there are three EPCs operating in Victoria in Footscray (Tweddle Child and Family Health Service), Noble Park (Queen Elizabeth Centre), and Canterbury (O’Connell Family Centre). The investment aims to upgrade and expand facilities at the existing centres and build and establish four new centres in growing metropolitan areas of Frankston, Casey, Wyndham, and Whittlesea. Three new centres will also be built in the regional areas of Ballarat, Bendigo, and Geelong.
The Department of Health has provided VACCHO with one-off funding to undertake key stakeholder consultations that seek to:
– guide the strategic and operational direction of the EPC expansion project to be strengths based and more culturally safe and responsive for Aboriginal children and their families
– provide the opportunity for Aboriginal services, caring for Aboriginal families to determine how services should be delivered for Aboriginal families to ensure cultural strength and responsiveness.
Scope of this consultancy:
We are seeking input from members to:
– capture stories and feedback on what is already working for Aboriginal children, mothers, and families across antenatal, maternal and child health, and early parenting services
– identify gaps and highlight what is required in the delivery of wraparound health supports for Aboriginal children, mothers, and families across antenatal, maternal and child health, and early parenting services to support Aboriginal children and families to thrive in the first five years of life.
If you would like more information or want to participate in the consultations, please email the Koori Maternity Services Team at VACCHO
