Dear friends, colleagues, staff and Community

Over the weekend a large COVID-19 cluster has been linked to suburbs North Melbourne, Flemington and Kensington which resulted in a stage 3 lockdown that went into effect midnight on Saturday 4 July 2020.

North Melbourne, Flemington and Kensington, in postcodes 3031 and 3051, joined 36 other postcodes who were placed in stage 3 lockdown last week.

We understand as part of this lockdown there are housing estates linked. We understand many residents might not have had adequate time to prepare and may need additional supports in accessing care, medicine, and food supplies. We also know that for many families and communities that periods of isolation present many fears and anxieties.

This morning on Sunday 5 July 2020, VACCHO, VAHS, VACCA, AHV, Djirra, Dardi Munwurro, FPHW and VALS met with government to plan on the ground legal, medical and community care supports for Aboriginal families and residents affected.

The ACCO sector came together to ensure those affected stay informed, can help slow spread and manage outbreaks and provide on the ground legal, medical and community care supports for Aboriginal families and residents.

VAHS will play the central coordination role. VAHS will work closely with the families impacted assessing and triaging needs across organisations outlined above.

VAHS will repurpose the 24/7 Yarning SafenStrong counselling line, to not only provide state-wide counselling supports, but also to be a key contact to North Melbourne, Flemington and Kensington residents affected by this lockdown.

We are confident that by acting quickly together we can help ensure the most vulnerable are safe and have the care they need during these challenging times.
