ACCO COVID-19 Vaccine Van Heading to Warrnambool

Posted by VACCHO Communications Team on 1 November 2021

The Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) and Gunditjmara Aboriginal Cooperative are pleased to announce that a dedicated Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) COVID-19 Vaccine Van will have its third residency in Warrnambool this week from 2 November (tomorrow).

The van will be staffed by health professionals from Star Health and VACCHO, and will be welcoming walk-ins with no booking required.

With restrictions easing across Victoria – Gunditjmara CEO Ashley Couzens is concerned about unvaccinated members of the community being left behind.

“I am looking forward to seeing the ACCO Vaccine Van open at the Harris Street Reserve on Tuesday.”

“With the state opening right up – I obviously have concerns about the health and safety of members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community who have not been vaccinated.”

“Many members of our community in Warrnambool have a number of pre-existing health conditions – which means they could be at greater risk of getting seriously ill should they contract COVID-19.”

“The rollout of dedicated vaccine van will play an important part in taking the vaccine to those who have struggled to gain that important access.”

Information regarding the van's visit to Warrnambool will be available on the VACCHO and Gunditjmara Aboriginal Cooperative Facebook page.

Vaccine Van Residency Details

Commencing on Tuesday 2 November, the Vaccine Van will be situated at the Harris Street Reserve, Warrnambool between 9am and 5pm.

Specialised staff will be administering Pfizer vaccines at the site for four days until Friday 5 November at 5pm.

There will be an assortment of giveaways including VACCHO’s new ‘Protect Mob’ T-shirts on hand for those who attend to get their Covid-19 Vaccine.

Thanks to the Victorian Department of Health for their support with the vaccination vans.
