Posted by VACCHO Communications Team on 22 November 2021

The Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) and Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation are pleased to announce that a dedicated Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) COVID-19 Vaccine Van will be heading to Wodonga and Benalla this week.

The ACCO Vaccine Van will be in:

  • Wodonga: 23 – 24 November: Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation, 21 Hovell Street, Wodonga from 9am to 4pm.
  • Benalla: 25 November: Benalla Community Health Centre, 45 – 53 Coster Street from 10am to 4pm.

An outreach service is also available for people who cannot attend the sites in person. Bookings can be made by calling 0488 600 684.

The van will be staffed by health professionals from Star Health and VACCHO. Specialised staff will be administering Pfizer vaccines.

There will be an assortment of giveaways including VACCHO’s new ‘Protect Mob’ T-shirts designed by Yorta Yorta women Rebecca Hunt and Sarah Hunt.

VACCHO CEO Jill Gallagher believes the Vaccine Van will be an excellent addition to the brilliant work that has been done by the Mungabareena team.

“I think the van will be a great asset in that it will complement the hard work the team have been doing at Mungabareena.”

“We have been seeing some COVID-19 outbreaks emerge in Wodonga and on the other side of the river in Albury.”

“These outbreaks are an important reminder of the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine.”

“The vaccine van provides a great opportunity for community to come and have a yarn with the friendly staff should they have any questions about the vaccine.”

“The community have done so well with strong numbers coming forward to be vaccinated – we just need to put in one last big effort to get those vaccination rates up to protect our Elders - who are at the heart of our community.”

Information regarding the vaccine van's visit to Wodonga is available on the VACCHO and Mungabareena Facebook pages.

Thanks to the Victorian Department of Health for their support with the vaccination van.
