The following is an outline of the different roles of the Njernda Family Services Unit.  The Family Services Unit is a combination of innovative programs of the Njernda Aboriginal Corporation which were brought about because of a need within the community to help individuals & families strengthen, empower and be in charge of their destiny.

Best Start Program
Best Start aims to improve health, development, learning and wellbeing of all Victorian children from pregnancy through transition to school with programs that target children in the 0-8yr age group.

Bringing Them Home Worker
The stolen generation worker is responsible for developing and delivering programs to Aboriginal people in the Echuca area who are/or have suffered as a result of past Government removal policies.

Emergency Relief Program
Njernda Aboriginal Corporation provides resources to support Community Members facing emergency hardship situations. Enquires can be directed to the Family Services Worker.

Family Services Worker
Offers relevant services for Families with children/young people age between 0-18 years, to strengthen parenting ability and confidence and to empower families towards self determination by building on each families natural strengths. To enhance family, child adolescent health and wellbeing, to prevent child abuse and neglect and to support the family through major transition and times of crisis through the provision of supportive, responsive and culturally sensitive services.
The Njernda Family Service team is a member of the Child First North Central Victorian Family Services Alliance (Campaspe).

Kinship Care /Placement Support Worker
Njernda Kinship Care/Placement Support Worker will work in partnership with Kinship Carers, DHS & Placement Agencies, Child & Family Services to assist in the provision of safe, kinship care/placement and support to all Aboriginal children requiring alternative care.

SAAP Program
To assist community in transitional housing such as: Emergency accommodation, crisis housing and all temporary housing.  Also to assist and support in the Office of Housing matters.

Spiritual Emotional &  Wellbeing Worker
The Social & Emotional Wellbeing Worker is responsible for the delivery of targeted mental health initiatives to the local Aboriginal Community. This S&EW addresses the S&EW needs of families, children, carers and young people as well as developing partnerships with mental health, primary health and other community services.

Community Support Worker
The Community Support Worker will give priority attention to young Aboriginal people demonstrating high risk behaviours that indicate risk for mental illness and significant psychosocial distress such as suicide attempts, self harm, early drug use, criminality, disengagement from school and family and violence.  In recognition of the risk and protective factors for suicide and self harm listed above, the service model will have three main service components: Prevention response, Early Intervention and Postvention support.
