Children and Families

VACCHO supports programs that focus on fostering strong families, kinship connections and communities as these programs are critical for ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families are safe, thriving and healthy.

We advocate for sustainable, long-term funding allocation for our Member organisations that deliver a range of programs that focus on preventative health care and wellbeing support.

Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) have a long history of designing and delivering culturally safe, holistic services including Koori Maternity Services, maternal child health, Early Years education, and family strengthening programs.

VACCHO is also a member of the Dhelk Dja Partnership Forum and Dhelk Dja Koori Caucus. The Dhelk Dja Partnership Forum and its members are committed to Community-led responses to end family violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is their responsibility to work closely with Community and stakeholders to implement Dhelk Dja 10-Year Agreement and ensure that the principles of self-determination are at the heart of the Partnership Forum’s work.
