BreastScreen Victoria with Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation
February 5 - February 7Free
Get your breasts checked with BreastScreen Victoria and Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation.
Get your breasts checked and protect yourself against breast cancer. Put your health centre stage by getting a free breast screen every two years from age 50. Regular breast screens are the best way to find breast cancer early and when treatment is most likely to be successful.
The BreastScreen mobile screening van will be visiting Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation from Monday 5 February to Wednesday 7 February. Your free breast screen will be done in a culturally safe environment with a female radiographer and will only take 10 minutes.
For more information contact Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation on (02) 6024 7599.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women will receive a FREE beautiful shawl (below) to use during the screening that they can keep afterwards.
The artwork on this beautiful shawl is ‘Tiddas Journey’ and is designed by talented Wiradjuri artist, Samantha Williams.
“This Artwork is inspired by Women’s Health and Wellness. The spiritual journey we undertake each day. Women’s Health is important as we are the backbone of our families. Sometimes health issues affect us and it can be scary but we need to remember we are surrounded and guided by our sisters and ancestors.
In this artwork you can see 2 women but if you look again, you will see breasts, representing breast screening, the blue lines flowing is the water representing cleansing, the circles represent the spirits guiding us and the seeds are those we are planting for the future, encouraging other women to take care of themselves. The U shapes are women and the animal tracks for goanna tracks (my totem).”
