Koori Mental Health Program

The Mental Health Support Project Officer supports the Koori Mental Health Liaison Officer’s (KMHLOs) with professional development, networking opportunities and advocates on behalf and to the workforce. KMHLOs are mostly based in Area Mental Health Services (AMHS).

The role of a KMHLO is dependent on local priorities identified by the AMHS and local partners, often Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). Some of the more common tasks include supporting Aboriginal patients, supporting and building links between the AMHS and ACCHO, providing culturally sensitive practice advice to clinicians and other mental health workers, participating in health promotion activities, and providing cross cultural training in collaboration with ACCHOs.

The Koori Mental Health Program is state funded by the Department of Health.
